United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, also known as SDGs, are 17 interlinked goals designed to be a “shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet.” The SDGs make it clear that we need to think globally and act locally.

At UBQ Materials, the SDGs have been a roadmap to developing our own internal sustainability goals and understanding how we can be a positive force and help improve life around the world. As a Certified B Corp and a UN Global Compact signatory (UNGC), UBQ Materials is actively supporting and contributing to many SDGs, with a particular focus on the following:

UN_SustainableDevGoals-13-1-1
CLIMATE ACTION

UBQ takes action to combat climate change by reducing total greenhouse gas emissions. UBQ removes biogenic carbon and helps prevent greenhouse gas emissions from waste management and oil production.

UN_SustainableDevGoals-12 1 (1)
Responsible consumption and production

UBQ contributes to more sustainable production patterns by decreasing demand for raw materials and increasing the amount of material recycled. UBQ gives our resources new life, capturing waste that is difficult to recycle and converting it to a novel material that can replace virgin plastics.

UN_SustainableDevGoals-11 1 (2)
SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES

UBQ supports safe, sustainable cities by improving waste management and increasing the supply of resource-efficient building materials. UBQ turns hard-to-manage waste into building materials such as pipes, bricks, and flooring.

Group 3 (1)
INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE

UBQ promotes sustainable industry and innovation by providing added manufacturing value with low emissions. UBQ™ is a versatile, cost-competitive alternative to common oil-based raw materials.

PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS

UBQ strengthens international partnerships for sustainable development by sharing knowledge and engaging in thought leadership. UBQ participates in international conferences, exchanges ideas with many environmental organizations, and builds coalitions for more aggressive climate and waste policies.

Group 5 (1)
Life below water

UBQ protects life below the water by reducing the amount of non-degradable waste that reaches aquatic ecosystems by diverting organics and hard-to-recycle materials meant for landfills or illegal dumping. Through its patented conversion process, mixed household waste is turned into a bio-based, thermoplastic material that can replace conventional plastics in durable and semi-durable applications. This provides a sustainable, circular solution that intercepts waste before it enters vulnerable ecosystems.

Group 6
Life on land

The adoption of UBQ™, a bio-based material made from mixed household waste, helps protect life on land by minimizing the need for extracting natural resources, reducing land pollution, supporting biodiversity, and reducing the ecological footprint of products traditionally made with fossil fuels.
