Today, global society produces over 2 billion tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) annually. This number is expected to double in the next 30 years. Waste is a ubiquitous problem that requires immediate, long-term solutions. With time running out to reduce global warming levels, UBQ has recognized that a zero-waste approach is one of the fastest, cheapest, and most effective ways to reduce emissions and accelerate the transition to a circular economy.
UBQ has developed a material with the potential to be utilized in manufacturing across industries. UBQ’s advanced conversion technology transforms the entirety of unsorted household waste destined for landfill (from banana peels and dirty diapers to unrecyclable plastics and dirty cardboard) into the UBQ™ material – a sustainable, recyclable, bio-based material that can be used to substitute conventional plastic, concrete, and wood in the manufacturing of everyday products.
“Novel end-of-life solutions for society’s virtually limitless household waste are imperative to address the global climate emergency. With landfills accounting for 11 percent of all human-related methane emissions, there is an urgent need to rethink how we process waste.” – Tato Bigio, Co-Founder and CEO, UBQ Materials.
About Zero Waste Awards
Set up in 2010, the Zero Waste Awards scheme has more than 500 members and is the premier recognition scheme for businesses and organizations that are committed to increasing the amount of waste they reduce, reuse, and recycle.
The organizers say, “the overall objective of the scheme is to build a community of sustainable businesses, providing a platform for winners to collaborate and work together to reduce their environmental impact.”
The winners will be recognized and given a chance to network with their industry peers at the recognition luncheon, to be held in November – stay tuned!
